Laser - Alexandrite (755 nm) & Nd:YAG (1064 nm)

The Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) laser is a non-ablative laser - which means the laser does not remove the top layer of the skin. Instead, the laser targets the underlying skin tissue beneath the top layer of the skin to encourage the skin to naturally produce more collagen. The laser’s energy actually goes through the surface of the skin. Non-ablative lasers do not damage the surface of the skin but rather make the surface of your skin glow - from the inside out!

Alexandrite lasers, with its 755 nm long pulse, is specifically attracted to the melanin pigmentation in your hair and skin. Alexandrite lasers cause very precise tissue destruction of the lesion and leave the tissue in the surrounding area undamaged. The Alexandrite (755 nm) laser is most effective and safest for clients with Fitzpatrick skin types I-III

For those with darker or sun tanned skin, the Nd:YAG (1064 nm) wavelength is used to avoid harming the overlying skin's pigment. Laser skin resurfacing is used to produce a firmer, smoother and younger looking skin surface. The Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser, specifically targets the skin’s texture. Laser resurfacing treatments provide long-lasting results. You will love the skin you’re in after receiving a laser facial!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Alexandrite (755 nm) laser is effective for lighter skin tones, best suited to those at the lower end of the Fitzpatrick scale (I to II). Alexandrite lasers are not suitable for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick scale III-VI).

Nd:YAG laser has a wavelength of 1064nm, which has been developed specifically to be effective on all skin tones, including Asian and Afro-Caribbean skin (Fitzpatrick scale II-VI), for which other systems are ineffective and can be unsafe.

Nd:YAG laser is safe for darker skin as its wavelength is longer than other lasers used for laser hair removal. For this reason, it can penetrate deeper into the skin, bypassing the melanin in the skin (which there is more of in darker skin) and targeting the melanin in the hair. Therefore, it is considered to have the ability to treat all skin tones.

  • Alexandrite (755 nm) & Nd:YAG (1064 nm) lasers can safely and effectively treat many parts of the body and face, including the neck, shoulders, back, chest, arms, hands, and legs.

  • Side effects from alexandrite or Nd:YAG laser treatments are usually minor and may include:

    • Pain during treatment

    • Redness, swelling and itching immediately after the procedure that may last a few days after treatment

    • Rarely, skin pigment may absorb too much light energy and blistering can occur; this settles by itself

    • Changes in skin pigmentation. Sometimes the pigment cells (melanocytes) can be damaged leaving darker (hyperpigmentation) or paler (hypopigmentation) patches of skin. Generally, cosmetic lasers will work better on people with lighter than darker skin tones

    • Bruising affects up to 10% of patients. It usually fades on its own

    • Bacterial infection; antibiotics may be prescribed to treat or to prevent wound infection

  • Vascular lesions

    • Treatment time depends on the form, size and location of the lesions as well as the skin type

    • Small red vessels can usually be removed in only 1 to 3 sessions and are generally invisible directly after the treatment.

    • Several sessions may be necessary to remove bigger veins and spider veins

    Hair removal

    • Laser hair removal requires multiple sessions (3 to 8 sessions or more). The number of sessions depends on the area of the body being treated, skin

color, coarseness of hair, underlying conditions such as polycystic ovaries, and sex

    • It is recommend waiting from 3 to 8 weeks between laser sessions for hair removal

    • It is time for the next session when fine hairs start to grow again

    • Clients with darker skin types may require more treatments

    Onychomycosis

    • In general, clients require 4 treatments at monthly intervals
